Background
Between September and December 2008, all local authorities across England were required to conduct a postal survey of residents. The Place Survey was designed to capture local peoples' views, experiences and perceptions, to ensure services and solutions reflect local views and preferences. The Place survey has replaced the BVPI General (User) Satisfaction Survey which was last undertaken by local authorises in 2006.
The Place Survey will be carried out every other year to enable local authorities and partners to track people's changing perceptions, as a way of determining whether interventions made in an area result in the right outcomes for residents.

Information on previous Residents' Surveys
Although the full Place Survey report refers to previous BVPI results, direct comparisons should not be made between the Place survey and previous Nottingham City Council resident surveys due to a different methodology and question wording. The Place Survey results form a new baseline from which to monitor ongoing improvement, and the Place Survey will next be repeated across England in 2010. The following links provide access to the findings of the 2006 BVPI General Satisfaction Survey and previous corporate Residents' Surveys undertaken by Nottingham City Council.
