Crime and community safety

Community safety is about feeling safe, whether at home, in the street or at work. It relates to quality of life and being able to pursue and obtain the fullest benefits from your domestic, social and economic lives without fear or hindrance from crime and disorder. Nottingham City Council and partners deliver a wide range of services that contribute directly to making our communities safer and aim to ensure that community safety is taken into account in all aspects of service delivery.

Nottingham City Council’s Community Protection directorate delivers a range of services in relation to community safety across Nottingham. The service is made up of Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire Police functions with officers providing a local presence in every city neighbourhood and a network of specialist departments including Environmental Health and Trading Standards.

At a partnership level the law requires ‘responsible authorities’ to work together to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour, substance misuse and reoffending in Nottingham. These arrangements enable a multi-agency approach to analysis, strategy development, resource usage and performance management.
