The INSPIRE directive is a set of EU legislation which exists to facilitate and encourage cross-boundary sharing of environmental data and information between EU member states. The definition of environment is broad and INSPIRE includes data about: population, demographics, land use and planning, utility services, energy resources, species and habitats, metrological features and health and wellbeing.
Many different organisations have a duty to publish geographical datasets about the environment, at either a local, regional or national level under these EU INSPIRE Regulations. This includes all councils.
